Susper's R&D is built around cooperative relationships with scientific research institutions, major industry labs including the Fraunhofer Institute (Germany), INRIA (France) and T-Systems Labs and communities around the world.
The idea of open mesh networks based on free and open source software is attracting many people all over the world. Hundreds of communities and companies have already set up mesh networks all over the world. With established relationships to the most active players on all continents, Susper is in a fortunate and privileged position. We are welcoming new players and communities and are happy to help them tapping into the knowledge base and resources of the international mesh community.
Currently some of the biggest networks can be found in Germany set up by the Freifunk community. The foundations of Susper lie here, with the founders of Susper building mesh networks since 2001.
With the availability of cheaper wireless routers and the porting of mesh technology to other devices such as mobile phones (e.g. OLSR is already ported to the iPhone) other regions are catching up. Wireless mesh networks exist in countries such as France, Spain, Croatia, the US, Mexico, Argentine, India, Nepal, Ghana and South Africa. For more examples refer to the global freifunk newswire (http://global.freifunk.net) which is maintained by people from Susper. With our partners we work together with the community and support the internationalization of the wireless mesh community actively.
